How to play

• Select a cell and enter katakana — use the on-screen kana keyboard, or just type romaji on a physical keyboard (ka → カ, ba → バ; keep your IME off). A pending consonant shows faintly in the cell until a vowel completes it.
• Input advances along the selected word automatically — left to right for Across, top to bottom for Down. Tap the selected cell again (or press Space) to switch direction; Tab jumps to the next clue.
• The real goal is the final answer: the numbered cells ①②… scattered around the grid spell a hidden word when read in order. Solve the clues, fill the numbered cells, then hit "Check answer".
• Voiced marks matter: バ and ハ are different letters here. Use the ゛ and ゜ keys on the kana keyboard to add or remove them (romaji input like ba enters バ directly). Only small kana are merged with their large forms: ッ goes in a ツ cell, ョ in a ヨ cell.
• Stuck? "Reveal a cell" gives you one letter; "Give up" shows the full solution (no streak credit, but it still counts as solved in the back-number list).
• Past puzzles live under "📚 Back numbers" below the grid — every day's theme listed from #1 onward, with an Unsolved / Solved status at the right of each row so you can spot what you haven't played yet.

A themed puzzle every day

A new puzzle appears at midnight (your local time), and every day has a theme. On Japanese anniversary days the puzzle follows that observance — Halloween words on October 31, hot-spring words on "Good Bath Day" (November 26). Other days rotate between one-word themes like "insects", "the Sengoku era" or "blue things", and tougher non-themed puzzles at intermediate and advanced level. Note that only some of the words relate to the theme — a handful of themed entries are woven in, and the rest of the grid is general vocabulary (on most days the final answer is theme-related, too). Clues are written in Japanese, which makes this a genuinely fun vocabulary workout for Japanese learners — roughly JLPT N4–N2 territory depending on the day.
